Highstreet Shop

We were on Burford’s beautiful High Street for fortyseven years. However with increasing family commitments we reluctantly made the difficult decision to move completely online.

The Burford shop where it all began

Burford Woodcraft was housed in an old Cotswold stone building on a high street full of listed architecture. The shop opened in 1978 and ever since we have been making and promoting contemporary British woodwork. Here on the banks of the Windrush valley with its beautiful rolling limestone landscape the historic town grew and prospered. This was with the wealth of the wool trade and the area also saw the birth of the Arts and Crafts movement with William Morris.

From small beginnings with just a few makers we now have many more, one of whom, Robert Lewin is a partner in BW but has now retired as a furniture designer-maker. All our craftsmen and women are skilled in using a variety of techniques and finishes to produce high quality pieces. These illustrate the natural beauty and versatility of the wood, be it a bookmark or something bigger.

We hope that you will enjoy your visit to our website. See for yourself why it is that so many of our customers return time and again.
